The weather in French
LA METEO
1. Quel temps fait-il ? Quel temps il fait ? Il fait quel temps ?
Réponses :
- Il fait + adverbe
- Il y a + nom
- Il + verbe
2. Il fait + adverbe = température
Il fait beau : the weather is nice
Il fait chaud : it’s hot
Il fait bon : the weather is nice, it’s warm
Il fait frais : it’s fresh
Il fait froid : it’s cold
Il fait 20°C (vingt degrés Celsius) : it’s 20°C : it’s 68°F
We don’t need to say Celsius because for us it’s always Celsius.
Precision :
To insist we use “très” : il fait très froid, il fait très chaud : it’s very cold, very hot.
If you don’t like the weather and you want to say that it’s too cold or too hot, use trop : il fait trop froid, il fait trop chaud.
Don’t confuse :
très : very
trop : too (much)
Conjugation :
In the past : il faisait beau (imparfait) / Il a fait beau (passé-composé)
In the future : il va faire beau (futur proche) / il fera beau (futur simple)
